GRANITE CITY – A new bus route to serve the Lakeview Commerce Center was approved by the Madison County Transit board of trustees Wednesday.
The route will serve workers filling nearly 2,000 jobs at World Wide Technologies, Spectrum Brands and one of the new Amazon.com Inc. fulfillment centers.
The new route will start Monday, Aug. 29. It will provide direct service to those three companies from a nearby transfer point at Liberty and Chain of Rocks Road. The shuttle connects to buses serving MCT’s No. 4, 6 and 20 routes and offers timed transfers to the Granite City, Riverbend and Edwardsville areas.
Where else in our region can you find employers adding thousands of new jobs to the workforce?” said Madison County Board Chairman Alan Dunstan. “I am proud that Madison County is a place where job creators choose to locate and am pleased that MCT will be bringing our residents to jobs at these facilities.”
MCT will also work with employers to develop car- and vanpools through its RideFinders program.
“Providing access to employment is one of MCT’s primary objectives,” said MCT Managing Director Jerry Kane.
MCT also provides service to nearby Gateway Commerce Center with its approximately 5,000 full and part-time positions. MCT bus service was extended to the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Gateway, earlier this month.
Route and schedule information for the new Lakeview Shuttle will be distributed to bus riders and employees. Details about this and all other MCT bus routes and services are also available online at www.mct.org. Timetables are available at MCT Stations, on MCT buses and at locations throughout Madison County. For details about MCT services, call 618-797-4636, visit www.mct.org, or e-mail email@example.com.
